Adult students have a special place here at our music school. From parents to working adults to seniors, adults inspire all of here at the Myriad Music School. Treat yourself! Allocate time just for your personal development and find your zen with private lessons in piano, jazz piano, guitar in all styles, voice lessons in all styles, violin, viola and flute.

Myriad’s private lesson teachers in San Mateo believe every student can succeed with the right tools. You might be an adult who is returning to the music lessons you received as a child. Or perhaps you are a beginner whose always wanted to start learning an instrument. A professional, nurturing teacher is the first step, followed by personalized, success-based lesson structure and purposeful home practice suggestions. Adult students who love their private music lessons do take ownership of their progress. We take the time to understand each student’s needs and help them set their own goals, so adult students feel successful and confident at lessons and with home practice. Let’s help you make a great choice, for maximum enjoyment and lasting results.

Adults, All Levels
Our private music lessons are one-on-one instruction with lesson lengths of 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour. For Adults we recommend lessons twice monthly, to give you some time to practice inbetween lessons. This tends to work best. We recommend a 45 min lesson length. If you do not see a  45-minute or 60-minute open lesson time here, simply register for a 30-minute spot then call our friendly Arts Admin Team to inform them of your intention, and we’ll help adjust your schedule.

We teach all styles, including classical, jazz, contemporary, pop, and musical theater tunes, along with songwriting skills. Students learn healthy, tension-free technique, music reading, theory, and smart practice strategies, while choosing their own fun projects along the way. Whether playing for personal enjoyment or pursuing a college-prep path, every student at Myriad progresses, gains confidence, and finds joy collaborating with their teacher each week.

All Private Lessons are year-round enrollment / 12 month classes. Your preferred lesson time is reserved exclusively or you, year-to-year. No need to re-register each time.  Need to miss a lesson? It’s easy, with our make-up link. Sign-up for make-up lessons anytime. Make-up opportunities never expire, with continued active enrollment.

Which type of Adult Student are you?

Some of our adult students are taking lessons because their children are, and they want to keep up. This is a wonderful way to connect with your child. Some of our adults students are beginners, and some took lessons as a child, and are returning to lessons. Likewise other adult voice students sing in a band, or their church choir, or are preparing for community musical theater productions. Furthermore some play in a band and want to refine their guitar skills with their band repertoire. Our teachers focus the lessons around each adult’s musical goals, We’ll help you get there!

Bob’s Testimonial

Adult StudentI was so traumatized by piano lessons I took as a child that, despite a passion for music, I didn’t try again for over forty years.

The teaching at Myriad has been everything I needed years ago and more. Better late than never. I’m making progress and, even
more importantly, I’m loving the process.

I’m glad the teachers at Myriad are relatively young and healthy because I’m in this for the duration and want to keep taking lessons there as long as I can keep breathing and stay upright on the bench.
